۞ أَفَتَطۡمَعُونَ أَن یُؤۡمِنُوا۟ لَكُمۡ وَقَدۡ كَانَ فَرِیقࣱ مِّنۡهُمۡ یَسۡمَعُونَ كَلَـٰمَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ یُحَرِّفُونَهُۥ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا عَقَلُوهُ وَهُمۡ یَعۡلَمُونَ

وقَوْلُهُ تَعالى: ﴿أفَتَطْمَعُونَ أنْ يُؤْمِنُوا لَكم وقَدْ كانَ فَرِيقٌ مِنهم يَسْمَعُونَ كَلامَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُونَهُ مِن بَعْدِ ما عَقَلُوهُ وهم يَعْلَمُونَ﴾ يَدُلُّ عَلى أنَّ العالِمَ بِالحَقِّ المُعانِدَ فِيهِ أبْعَدُ مِنَ الرُّشْدِ وأقْرَبُ إلى اليَأْسِ مِنَ الصَّلاحِ مِنَ الجاهِلِ؛ لِأنَّ قَوْلَهُ تَعالى ﴿أفَتَطْمَعُونَ أنْ يُؤْمِنُوا لَكُمْ﴾ يُفِيدُ زَوالَ الطَّمَعِ في رُشْدِهِمْ لِمُكابَرَتِهِمُ الحَقَّ بَعْدَ العِلْمِ بِهِ.

And His, the Exalted’s, saying: {Do you then hope that they will believe you, while a party of them used to hear the word of Allah, then they distort it after they had understood it, while they know?} indicates that the one knowledgeable of the truth who is obstinate in it is further from right guidance and closer to despair of righteousness than the ignorant one; because His, the Exalted’s, saying {Do you then hope that they will believe you} implies the removal of hope in their right guidance due to their arrogant rejection of the truth after knowing it.
